COPPER. 

These  coins  are  always  badly  struck  and  it  is  very 
seldom  that  a complete  specimen  is  found;  unless  sizes 
are  mentioned,  they  are  of  the  smallest  value  of  the  period 
and  would  correspond  to  the  term  of  mites,  as  translated 
in  the  New  Testament.  The  specimens  described  below 
were  collected  by  Dr.  Zimmerman  in  Palestine.

far  above  it  and  the  date  evenly  spaced,  closely  to- 
gether and  the  4 touching  the  bust ; the  lowest  lock 
terminates  without  a point  curling  underneath. 
Rev.  also  from  a new  die.  6 berries  on  r.  and  7 on 
1.  side  of  wreath ; leaf  on  r.  comes  up  under  the  foot 
of  t and  apparently  joins  it;  outside  lower  leaf  on 
r.  joins  c and  bunch  of  leaves  opposite  first  a in 
America  extends  higher  above  it  than  usual,  the 
left  foot  of  a being  about  midway  of  leaf;  stems 
straight  point  to  u and  right  foot  of  a;  crack  ex- 
tends upwards  from  n in  one  to  edge  between  s and
